Southern Peninsula
Fewer travellers visit the southern peninsula, where there are more British, French and
Turkish memorials than Anzac sites. During low-season weeks, it's a good place to escape
the traffic and tour groups, although the Çanakkale Şehitleri Anıtı in particular is becom-
ing increasingly popular with Turkish groups.
In and around the villages of Alçıtepe , 12km south of Kabatepe, and Seddülbahir are
several war museums, cemeteries and monuments. East of the latter, the Çanakkale Şe-
hitleri Anıtı Offline map ( Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial) , also known as the Abide monument,
is a gigantic four-legged, almost-42m-high stone table that commemorates the Turkish
soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli.
