Tours
Unless you have some knowledge of the history, a guided tour is by far the best way to ex-
perience the peninsula. The recommended tour providers generally offer five- or six-hour
afternoon tours of the northern peninsula, including transport, guide and picnic lunch (typ-
ically " 60/90 from Eceabat/Çanakkale). Condensed tours from İstanbul are often exhaust-
ing, as they involve visiting the battlefields straight after a five-hour bus ride.
CROWDED HOUSE TOURS
( 814 1565; www.crowdedhousegallipoli.com ; Eceabat) Bülent 'Bill' Yılmaz Korkmaz's tours
can be organised through Hotel Crowded House. Private tours and morning snorkelling to
a WWI shipwreck at North Beach ( " 35, including transportation and equipment) are also
offered. One- and two-day packages involve a transfer from accommodation in İstanbul to
the otogar (bus station), then a night in Eceabat before the tour.
