is simply a market town with an old Ottoman
quarter. On the surrounding hills, however, stand the Acropolis, with classical ruins includ-
ing the stunning theatre, and the Asclepion, Rome's pre-eminent medical centre. In town,
the Red Basilica was a temple to Egyptian gods.
