laureate Orhan Pamuk's museum/piece of conceptual art is worth a visit, particularly if
you have read his novel of the same name. Displaying found objects in a 19th-century
house, it evokes what Pamuk describes as 'the melancholy of the period' in which the
novel is set.
Sultanahmet & Around
This is the heart of Old İstanbul and the city's premier sightseeing area, so the hotels here
and in the adjoining neighbourhoods (Cankurtaran, Küçük Aya Sofya, Binbirdirek, Çem-
berlitaş, Alemdar and Cağaloğlu) are supremely convenient. The main drawbacks are the
carpet touts and the lack of decent bars and restaurants.
