ANADOLU KAVAĞI
( Anadolu Kavağı) Here, on the Asian shore, the Bosphorus meets the Black Sea. Once a
fishing village, Anadolu Kavağı's local economy now relies on the tourism trade and its
main square is full of mediocre fish restaurants and their touts.
Perched above the village are the ruins of the medieval castle Anadolu Kavağı Kalesi
(Yoros Kalesi). First built by the Byzantines, it was restored and reinforced by the Gen-
oese and the Ottomans. Unfortunately, the castle is in such a serious state of disrepair that
it has been fenced so that no one can enter and enjoy its spectacular Black Sea views.
