Giving Yourself a Longer Battery Life
One common annoyance of mobile phones and tablets is when they run out of battery at
just the wrong time. These devices have actually come a long way in by default and they
are certainly miles ahead of most laptops, the batteries can still drain rapidly under some
circumstances. A very typical cause of a battery that runs out faster than it should is when
too many normal or a malicious application runs in the background. We'll discuss managing
your battery life under normal circumstances here but be sure to read the section on mobile
anti-virus apps as well.
In order to find out what apps are draining your battery, you will need to delve into the set-
tings menu once again
1.
Slide Open the Notification Area
2.
Click the Battery Symbol. It may show charge or charging beneath it
Alternatively
1. Slide Open Notification Area
2. Click Options Icon
3. Select Settings
4. Press Battery
Here you can get some insight into the cause of battery issues and to make some changes.
You'll see a decent chunk of information here including your current battery charge, how
much battery you have remaining, a graph of your battery history, a list of apps and services
taking a significant portion of battery, and a battery saver toggle.
Battery Saver
Your first instinct is that if you hit battery saver then you'll see huge results but that it's really
more of a feature to protect your phone from going dead in dire circumstances. When you
toggle it, it will restrict background mobile data from feeding into your phone when your
battery is low. Since it only applies when a battery is already close to dying, it isn't an end
all and be all solution despite the fact that a large chunk of battery does tend to be drained to
this trickling background data that feeds into apps. Nonetheless, It's definitely worth trying
out if it's available on your device.
