Regions at a Glance
Home to fairy-tale coastal hotspots like Capri and the Amalfi Coast, not to men-
tion the cultural riches of Naples, it's not surprising that Campania has tradition-
ally been southern Italy's blockbuster region.
In recent years Puglia and Basilicata have become the darlings of the in-the-know set,
famed for their gorgeous beaches, fantastic food, architectural quirks and authentic fest-
ivals. While off-the-radar Calabria may lack big-hitter sights and cosmopolitan cities, it's
well compensated by its rugged natural beauty, outdoor thrills and spicy rustic grub.
Like Campania, Sicily offers an enviable repertoire of landscapes, from volcanic peaks
and vine-laced slopes to milky blue beaches. It's also home to some of Italy's greatest
Graeco-Roman ruins, baroque architecture and culinary traditions.

Pizza & Pasta
Vying hard for Italy's culinary crown, Campania produces some of Italy's most famous fla-
vours: coffee, pizza, tomatoes, pasta, sfogliatella and a panoply of seafood. Head into the
hills for pit-reared coniglio (rabbit) slow-cooked with wild herbs.
