both in food and decor, this quirky little spot spoils meat eaters with a variety of barbe-
cued meat, as well as fresh pasta dishes such as ricotta and marjoram ravioli in a pork
sauce. Vegetarians can opt for the Ustica lentil stew, with broad beans and fennel; there's
also a wealth of Sicilian cheeses on offer.

Le Tre Bocche

Food-recommended trattoria takes pride in the freshest seafood and fish - so much so,
they have a stand at the Pescheria market. Short pastas come with wonderful sauces such
as bottarga (fish roe) and artichoke, spaghetti is soaked in sea urchins or squid ink, and
risottos are mixed with zucchini and king prawns. It's about 800m due north of the train
station.

Osteria Antica Marina

fish market is the place to come for seafood. A variety of tasting menus showcases
everything from swordfish to scampi, cuttlefish to calamari. Decor-wise think solid
wooden tables and rough stone walls. Reservations are essential.

Drinking & Nightlife
Not surprisingly for a busy university town, Catania has a reputation for its effervescent
nightlife. Fun streets for bar-hopping include (from west to east) Via Alessi, Via Collegi-
ata, Via Vasta, Via Mancini, Via Montesano, Piazza Spirito Santo and Via Teatro
Massimo.

Heaven
(Via Teatro Massimo 39; 9pm-2am) Pedestrianised Via Teatro Massimo heaves late at night as
crowds swill outside the many bars. One of the best-known addresses is Heaven, a trendy
lounge bar sporting kooky black and white designs and a 12m-long LED-lit bar. Outside,
where most people end up, there's seating on massive black leather sofas. DJs up the ante
on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
