an affordable snack, Alfredo's place is renowned all over Sicily for its granite: ices made
with coffee, fresh fruit or locally grown pistachios and almonds. It's also worth a visit for
its pane cunzato - open-faced sandwiches piled high with tuna, ricotta, eggplant, toma-
toes, capers and olives; split one with a friend - they're huge!

This family-run place in Pollara with a sprawling outdoor terrace specialises in old-fash-
ioned Sicilian home-cooking, including several vegetarian options. It also sells home-
