Getting Around
Transport in southern Italy is reasonably priced and usually efficient.
Train Reasonably priced, with extensive coverage and frequent departures.
Car Handy for travelling at your own pace, or for visiting areas with minimal public transport. Not a good idea for trav-
elling within major urban areas.
Bus Cheaper and slower than trains. Useful for more remote villages not serviced by trains.
Ferries & Hydrofoils Large ferries (navi) service Campania and Sicily. Smaller ferries (traghetti) and hydrofoils (alis-
cafi) service the Bay of Naples islands, the Amalfi Coast, Puglia's Isole Tremiti, and Sicily's Aeolian Islands. Most ser-
vices are reduced in winter.
