In-Depth Information
^ Hantei
Hantei specializes
in very delectable
kushi-age , deep-fried
skewers of meat, fish,
and vegetables served
with small side dishes.
Items are served six
at a time, and the
menu is set, dispensing
with the need to
consult the English
menu (see p87) .
& Kisso

bed of shredded cabbage,
and miso soup. Cutlets can be
dipped in their own brand of
sauce. Alternatives to meat are
delicately fried shrimp and
oysters served with a dribble
of lemon. This Maisen branch
is located in a converted
bathhouse (see p99) .
) Ume no Hana
Kaiseki , Japan's haute
cuisine, can be expensive. An
exquisitely prepared, multicourse
eating experience, it features
dishes prepared with fresh
ingredients, many of which are
seasonal. Kisso's mini- kaiseki
lunch sets, served in beautifully
crafted lacquerware alongside
simple flower arrangements, are
a great affordable option. d Map

A meal at this traditionally-
styled tofu restaurant in Ginza
makes for a great lesson in
Japanese cuisine. The menu
offers dishes at a variety of
prices, including special
children's courses. Choose from
a vast array of tofu-based meals
or the highly recommended
kaiseki courses (see p78) .
* Sasanoyuki
Many Tokyoites consider
Sasanoyuki to be the city's finest
tofu restaurant. It has an illustri-
ous history, with
connections to the
imperial family and
the high abbot at
Kanei-ji Temple during
the Edo period, when
the restaurant
opened. The atmos-
phere is relaxed and
the service unfussy
(see p87) .
