In-Depth Information
sustainable aviation may be to counter any growth with technological improvement
in order to keep overall impacts from rising.
I call for the following measures:
•
As a rule of debate, the use of 'sustainable' or its synonyms by participants must
be qualified with an explanation of interpretation.
•
A comprehensive study should assess aviation under all current definitions,
interpretations and analytic systems of sustainability.
•
Arising from this study, a brokered consensus on definitions, components and
indicators of sustainable aviation should be attempted.
•
New descriptive language and component terms should be developed to include
'accountable', 'acceptable', 'justifiable' and 'responsible' aviation.
From here to sustainability? In the case of aviation, there is a long way to go; but
first, let us develop a useful lexicon.
