OFF THE BEATEN TRACK
BIBBIENA
It may be short on headline attractions, but Bibbiena is one of the oldest settlements in the Casentino
and its upper town has a sleepy charm. The Chiesa di Santi Ippolito e Donato (aka the Pieve), off the
central piazza, is the proud possessor of artworks such as a 13th-century crucifix by the Master of San
Polo in Rosso and a 15th-century Madonna and Child Enthroned with Angels by Arcangelo di Cola da
Camerino. Visit it before or after enjoying a meal at Il Tirabusciò ( 0575 59 54 74;
www.tirabuscio.it ; Via R Scoti 12; meals €30; 12.30-2.30pm Wed-Sun & 7.30-10pm Wed-Mon),
which is known for the excellence of its modern Tuscan cuisine.
