all'Arancio,
a simple but compelling stone stela (funeral or commemorative marker) dat-
ing from the 3rd millennium BC.
Albero della Fecondità
Downhill from Piazza Garibaldi, opposite the main car park, is a 13th-century building
that was once used to store wheat. Under its loggia is the
Fonte dell'Abbondanza
(Foun-
tain of Abundance), a now decommissioned public drinking fountain topped by an ex-
traordinary fresco known as the
Albero della Fecondità
(Fertility Tree). Look closely to
see what type of fruit the tree bears!

This crossbow competition is held
twice yearly on the first Sunday after 20 May, and on a Sunday in either July or August
(usually the second Sunday in August). Twenty-four crossbowmen from the town's three
terzieri
(town districts) dress in medieval costume and compete for a golden arrow and a
large silk painting.
