Getting There & Away
The
bus station
is next to the Carabinieri (Police Station) at Porta San Giovanni. Buy bus
tickets at the tourist office. Buses run to/from Florence (€6.80, 1¼-2 hours, 14 daily) but
often require a change at Poggibonsi. Buses also run to/from Siena (€6, one to 1½ hours,
10 daily Monday to Saturday). For Volterra you need to go to Colle di Val d'Elsa (€3.40,
35 minutes, four daily Monday to Saturday) and then buy a ticket for Volterra (€2.75, 50
minutes, four daily).
From Florence and Siena, take the Siena- Florence
superstrada
, then the SR2 and finally
the SP1 from Poggibonsi. From Volterra, take the SR68 east and follow the turn-off signs
north to San Gimignano on the SP47.
Parking is expensive here. The cheapest option (per hour/24 hours €1.50/6) is at
Parcheggio Giubileo on the southern edge of town; the most convenient is at Parcheggio
Montemaggio next to Porta San Giovanni (per hour/24 hours €2/20).
The closest train station is located at Poggibonsi (by bus €2.50, about 30 minutes, fre-
quent).
