THREE PERFECT DAYS
Day 1: Touring Chianti
Spend a day visiting grand wine estates and sampling modern Tuscan cuisine. Prime your palate at the
recently opened Antinori nel Chianti Classico ( Click here ) near Florence and then wend your way
south to Siena through scenic secondary roads in the Chianti Fiorentino and Chianti Senese, stopping
for tastings and lunch along the way.
Day 2: Val d'Elsa
Two of the region's most compelling attractions are perched atop hills in the Val d'Elsa. Spend the
morning exploring the cobbled streets of Volterra, admiring artefacts in the Museo Etrusco Guarnacci
( Click here ) and visiting alabaster ateliers where artisans have worked for millennia. Then head to the
perfectly preserved medieval town of San Gimignano ( Click here ) to follow an artistic itinerary that
balances the gravitas of the old (Collegiata) with the exhilaration of the new (Galleria Continua).
Day 3: Around Montalcino
Another wine-related day (you are in Tuscany, after all!). Start at the majestic medieval abbey of
Sant'Antimo ( Click here ), where you might be lucky enough to hear the resident monks chanting dur-
ing mass. Then drive through vineyards laden with sangiovese grapes to enjoy lunch with local wine-
makers at Il Leccio ( Click here ). In the afternoon, head to the fortified town of Montalcino ( Click
here ) , home to one of the world's great wines, Brunello.
