This medieval pilgrimage route connected Canterbury with Rome. It was so popular with pilgrims that
in the 8th century the Lombard kings built churches, hospices and monasteries offering shelter for pil-
grims along its length. This tour explores some of them.
From
Pontremoli
pick up the SS62 (direction La Spezia and Villafranca) and follow it 8km to-
wards Filattiera. In a grassy field on the left, admire the Romanesque
