Osteria Il Buongustai
(Via dei Cerchi 15r; meals €15; 11.30am-3.30pm Mon-Sat)
Run with breathtaking speed and
grace by Laura and Lucia, this place is unmissable. Lunchtimes heave with locals who
work nearby and savvy students who flock here to fill up on tasty Tuscan homecooking at
a snip of other restaurant prices. The place is brilliantly no frills - expect to share a table
and pay in cash; no credit cards.

Cantinetta dei Verrazzano
(Via dei Tavolini 18-20; focaccia €2.50-3; noon-9pm Mon-Sat, 10am-4.30pm Sun)
A
forno
(baker's
oven) and
cantinetta
(small cellar) make a heavenly match. Sit down at a marble-topped
table, admire prized vintages displayed behind glass wall cabinets and sip a glass of wine
(€4 to €10) produced on the Verrazzano estate in Chianti. The focaccia topped with cara-
melised
radicchio
is a must - as is a mixed cold-meat platter (ignore the bristly boar legs
strung in the open kitchen).

Tic Toc
(Via dell' Oche 15r; burgers €10, club sandwiches €7; 11am-11pm Mon-Sat)
This new kid on the
block, created by the gregarious and charismatic Igor from neighbouring Coquinarius, is
worth a pit stop. US diner (albeit it a highly stylish one as only a Florentine could do) is
its vibe and burgers made from the finest handcut beef, chicken or vegetables is its culin-
ary lure.
Homemade salsa, bacon and fries are a given, and there's plenty more extra toppings
(€0.50) to pick from. Handily, food is served all day and the bar is a hot spot come
aperit-
ivo
hour. Jack Daniels anyone?
