Travel with Children
If you're looking for a family-friendly destination, Tuscany fits the
bill. Your children might whinge about the number of churches and
museums on the daily itinerary, but they'll be quickly appeased by
gelato (yay!), pizza and pasta (yay again!) and the huge number of
kid-friendly activities waiting to be discovered.
Best Regions for Kids
Florence
Interactive museums, fantastic gelaterie (ice-cream shops) and public gardens make Tuscany's major
city a top choice for families.
Northwestern Tuscany
Head to the hills (in this case the Apuane Alps and Garfagnana) for the opportunity to see marble
miners at work in a mountain quarry, and run up and down wildflower-carpeted hillsides. Down on the
plain, the city of Lucca has lots to offer the little ones.
Central Coast & Elba
Beaches and boats. Enough said.
Southern Tuscany
This pocket of the region is full of nature reserves, national parks and archaeological sites where kids
can play hide and seek in the ruins. It's the perfect place for them to run off their frightening reserves of
excess energy.
