Fig. 3. SHARE-it Agent Architecture
system feeds of information gathered from the wide array of sensors included in the
Ambient Intelligence environment and the rich positional, force and gait information
that the i-Walker gets from the user. We will describe in detail the agent architecture
along the rest of this section.
Environment Agent ( ea ) is the mechanism used to manage the Ambient Intelligence
sensor network installed for the SHARE-it project. Its main role is to perform the au-
tonomous data gathering and information extraction from the environment, as well as
the interaction with the Ambient Intelligence devices that are included in the usual envi-
ronment of the users. These sensors provide data, which has to be conveniently stored,
filtered and delivered to the MAS, which will provide the autonomous decision and
control tasks into SHARE-it . Just as an example of the set of Beliefs, Goals and Plans
that each of these agents has we include table 1 that includes describes this set for ea .
The final system ought to be intelligent enough to: (1) distinguish which data from all
the available is significant for each one of the components of the system, and deliver
them to those components, and (2) extract and infer information from the raw data re-
trieved from the environment and transform it into meaningful ontology concepts, so a
better knowledge of the environment is acquired. Both capabilities will be achieved by
means of the ea , which also is in charge of:
- Proactively take decisions about the rooms conditioning (e.g. domotic actuators)
- Provide services to the mobile entities (e.g. , localization)
- Process the sensor signals in order to extract meaningful qualitative information
related to services tied to those sensors
