Fig. 2 Ef ect of ATA and/or arsenic trioxide induced dif erentiation on adhesion molecule
expression and cell extravasation. Compared to non-treated cells (A), acute promyelocytic
leukemia cells treated with ATA and/or arsenic trioxide (B) express higher levels of adhesion
molecules such as CD11b, CD18 and ICAM-1. Similar ef ects are observed on endothelial cells.
Consequently, there is facilitation of the stable arrest and transmigration.
h ere is a signii cant association between ICAM-1 polymorphisms and the risk
of dif erentiation syndrome development. Patients harboring the AA genotype at
codon 469 of ICAM-1 presented 3.5 times the chances of developing dif erentiation
syndrome as those with GA or GG genotypes. h e 469 E/K polymorphism in exon
6 results in a change from glutamic acid to lysine in Ig-like domain 5 of ICAM-1,
which is thought to af ect interactions with LFA-1 and adhesion of B-cells (Dore
et al . 2007).
