Eat & Drink Like a Local
If food isn't already one of your prime motivations for visiting Sicily, it should
be! Over the centuries, Sicilian chefs have combined culinary influences from
mainland Italy, north Africa and countless other places, with tasty and unexpec-
ted indigenous twists to create a unique cuisine, one of the world's most magnifi-
cent.
The Year in Food
While sagre go into overdrive in autumn, there's never a bad time to raise your fork in Sicily.
Spring (Mar-May)
Asparagus, artichokes and little wild strawberries flood the local market stalls, and Easter specialities fill bakery
windows. Tuna and swordfish both come into season.
Summer (Jun-Aug)
Time for eggplants, peppers, berries and seafood by the sea. Beat the heat Sicilian style with gelato on a brioche, or
fresh mulberry granite .
Autumn (Sep-Nov)
Food festivals galore, wine harvest season and a perfect time to visit the mountains for gems like chestnuts, hazel-
nuts, mushrooms and wild game.
Winter (Dec-Feb)
Time for Christmas and Carnevale treats.
