Prehistoric Art
Prehistoric art enthusiasts will find rock paintings and graffiti all over Sicily.
The Museo Archeologico Eoliano ( Click here ) , in Lipari, showcases a fascinating collec-
tion of prehistoric and ancient finds from early Mediterranean times; you can see the
charming ceramics and terracotta produced by the first Neolithic indigenous cultures in the
region.
The Upper Palaeolithic wall paintings and Neolithic incised drawings at the Grotta del
Genovese ( Click here ) were accidentally discovered in 1949 by the painter Francesca
Minellono. Between 6000 and 10,000 years old, the images mostly feature animals, such as
deer and horses, though you can spot tuna too, a fish traditionally found in the waters off
Sicily.
