Easter-Oct; ) High on a hillside 1km south of town, this odd-looking cylindrical
hotel has been run by the same family since 1964. Despite the rather dated atmosphere,
there are plenty of positives here: friendly staff, a pool with panoramic terrace, a seaside
swimming platform (accessed by a long steep staircase), and home-cooked meals featur-
ing produce from the surrounding fields.
Ficuzza
HOTEL
Antica Stazione Ferrovia di Ficuzza€
( 091 846 00 00; www.anticastazione.it ; Ficuzza; per person €35, with half-board €55; ) Off the
SS118, between Palermo and Corleone, this restaurant and hotel offers a truly unique ac-
commodation option, occupying a decommissioned 19th-century train station in the
middle of thick woods where Bourbon princes once hunted game. Rooms are simple but
comfortable and the restaurant is a real highlight. Staff can assist you with outdoor activit-
ies in the nearby national park, including horse-riding, hiking and mountain-bike riding.
The hotel hosts two annual live jazz and blues events: the Ficuzza J & B Summerfest in
August and the Ficuzza J & B Winter Club in late February/early March.
