Historic Centre
The place to start is Sciacca's main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, an attractive strip
lined with impressive palazzi, ceramic shops and some interesting churches. At the west-
ern end, Palazzo Steripinto OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP (Corso Vittorio Emanuele) is an imposing ex-
ample of 16th-century Catalan Gothic architecture, recognisable by its ashlar rustication
and twin-mullioned windows.
Just to the south, near Porta San Salvatore OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP , are two interesting
churches: the 14th-century Chiesa di Santa Margherita OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP , which features
a superb Renaissance portal and a rather chipped baroque interior; and the Chiesa del Carmine
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP , whose odd-looking 13th-century rose window predates the
majolica-tiled dome by some 600 years.
Continuing east along Corso Vittorio Emanuele brings you to Piazza Scandaliato, the
sloping piazza opposite the tourist office. Here you can hang out with the locals, perhaps
over a coffee or lemon granita (crushed-ice drink), at the Gran Caffè Scandaglia OFFLINE MAP
