A remarkable acoustic phenomenon known as
il portavoce
(the carrying voice) means even the faintest sound
carries in Agrigento's cathedral, but this only seems to work in the favour of the priest standing in the apse.
Should parishioners whisper in the back row near the cathedral door, the priest can hear their every word even
though he's standing some 85m away!

to working locals. By evening it morphs into a trendy hangout

This city-run theatre is Si-
cily's third largest, after Palermo's Teatro Massimo and Catania's Teatro Massimo Bellini.
