SHH! WE'RE IN A CHURCH
A remarkable acoustic phenomenon known as il portavoce (the carrying voice) means even the faintest sound
carries in Agrigento's cathedral, but this only seems to work in the favour of the priest standing in the apse.
Should parishioners whisper in the back row near the cathedral door, the priest can hear their every word even
though he's standing some 85m away!

BAR
( 092 22 71 07; www.qoc.me ; Via Cesare Battisti 8; Tue-Sun) A trendy little place just off Via
Atenea, QOC bills itself as an 'Outfit, Restaurant, Bar', but it does 'bar' best, with good,
themed aperitivo (happy hour) and late-night cocktails. There is a good-looking restaurant
upstairs and a fixed-menu lunch (€10), but the food is average. The owner and staff are
friendly and it's a great place to hang out among young agrigentini .
Café Girasole

(Via Atenea 68-70; Mon-Sat) By day this popular cafe-cum-wine-bar does brisk business
serving coffee and panini to working locals. By evening it morphs into a trendy hangout
for the 30-something aperitivo set, who stop by for cocktails and table snacks. Good at-
mosphere and outdoor seating.
