In-Depth Information
( 093 58 56 62; Via Teatro 1; meals €25; Thu-Tue) Dine in the shadow of Piazza Armerina's
local theatre at this welcoming family-run trattoria. The theatre theme translates to framed
theatre bills on the white walls and a showy roof fresco - better than the outside terrace -
but the food is far from stagey. There are excellent pizzas, filling pastas and a huge range
of meat dishes.
Al Fogher
( 093 568 41 23; www.alfogher.net ; Contrada Bellia SS117bis; meals €50; closed Sun evening & Mon) This
is one of central Sicily's top restaurants, serving sophisticated modern cuisine to a de-
manding and appreciative clientele. It's about 3km out of town, but your journey is rewar-
ded with dishes such as suckling pig with tuna egg sauce and asparagus, or mullet served
with yellow capsicum, wild rice and pistachio. Equal attention is given to the wine list,
which contains up to 400 labels. Reservations required.
