( 093 222 79 81; Corso XXV Aprile 68; meals €25; Wed-Mon) Fans of the Montalbano TV series
will want to eat here, as it's where scenes set in the fictional Trattoria San Calogero were
filmed. In reality, it's a cheerful, boisterous trattoria whose generous portions and relaxed
vine-covered terrace ensure a loyal clientele. The food is defiantly casareccia (home-
style), so expect no-frills pasta and uncomplicated cuts of grilled meat. Slow Food recom-
mended.

long-standing Ragusa address. The setting is not the most beautiful in town, but the tradi-
tional cuisine continues to find favour with locals and visiting business people who come
for classics like polpette con piselli (meatballs with peas) or gnocchi radiccio e provola al
fumo (with red chicory and smoked cheese).

( 093 265 12 65; Via Capitano Bocchieri 31; meals €90-100, tasting menus €135-140) This is generally re-
garded as one of Sicily's best restaurants. Behind the stained-glass door, small rooms are
outfitted like private parlours, ensuring a suitably romantic ambience for Chef Ciccio
Sultano's refined creations. These combine ingredients in an imaginative and unconven-
tional way while making constant use of classic Sicilian ingredients such as pistachios,
fennel, almonds and Nero d'Avola wine. Booking is essential.

( 093 224 87 78; Via Giovanni Ottaviano; tasting menu €78; Wed-Mon) This memorable restaurant
might be housed in a series of rocky caves, but the look is elegant yet understated, with
warm lighting, starched-white tables and bare rock walls. The food is traditional with a
modern twist: try the lasagnette with cocoa and ricotta cheese, or rabbit with bacon and
Sicilian pistachio nuts. Reservations recommended.
