In-Depth Information
THE SOUTHEAST
Dominated by the Monti Iblei hills, Sicily's southeast harbours some of the island's most
beautiful towns. In particular, Unesco-listed Noto, Modica and Ragusa stand out for their
sumptuous baroque architecture and stunning historic centres. And while these places are
not exactly undiscovered they are not yet on the main tourist radar, and outside of peak
periods are largely free of visitors. Elsewhere, the region is quietly rural, its gently rugged
landscape characterised by weathered limestone cliffs and deep rocky gorges.
