Eating
Ortygia is the best place to eat. Its narrow lanes are chock-full of trattorias, restaurants,
cafes and bars, and while some are obvious tourist traps, many are not, and you'll have no
trouble finding somewhere to suit your style. Most places specialise in seafood so expect
plenty of fishy pasta and grilled catches-of-the-day.

( 0931 46 30 07; www.enotecasolaria.com ; Via Roma 86) This small, rustic enoteca (wine shop) is
wonderfully old school, with rows of rough wooden tables and dark bottles lined up on
floor-to-ceiling shelves. But it's not just a shop, you can stop by for a glass of wine and a
bite to eat - think platters of cheese, olives, prosciutto, anchovies and sardines.
The wine list is extensive (see the website) and, though biased towards Italian and Si-
cilian labels, includes a number of French vintages and some Champagnes.

SICILIAN
( 392 461 08 89; Via Cavour 28; pasta €7-12; Tue-Sun) One of a number of popular eateries on
Via Cavour, this snug hole-in-the-wall trattoria has built a strong local reputation on the
back of its homemade pasta and fresh seafood. To taste for yourself try the prawn ravioli,
which is served with small cherry tomatoes and chopped mint, or the delicious fettuccine
allo scoglio (with seafood sauce).
Adding to the fun is a bustling atmosphere and the clutter that adorns the wooden walls.
Reservations are recommended.
