Getting There & Around
AIR
Catania's Fontanarossa airport (CTA; www.aeroporto.catania.it ) is 7km southwest of the city centre.
AMT ( 095 751 96 11; www.amt.ct.it ) Alibus 457 runs to the airport from the train station (€1,
30 minutes, every 20 minutes). A taxi for four people plus luggage costs about €28.
BOAT
From the ferry terminal on the southeastern edge of the historic centre, there are ferries to/
from Naples. TTT Lines ( 095 34 85 86, 800 91 53 65; www.tttlines.it ) operates the daily Naples
ferry. Fares per person for a poltrona (airline-type armchair) in low/high season are €38/
60.
BUS
There are two main bus terminuses in Catania: Interbus, Etna and SAIS Autolinee run to/
from the Terminal Bus (Via Archimede) . As a rule buses are quicker than trains for most destina-
tions. AST ( 095 723 05 35; www.aziendasicilianatrasporti.it ) runs to many provincial towns around
Catania, including Nicolosi (€2.40, one hour, half-hourly). Tickets are available at the Ter-
minal Bar over the road from the bus stops. Interbus - Etna Trasporti ( 095 53 03 96;
www.interbus.it ) has buses to Syracuse (€6, 1¼ hours, hourly Monday to Saturday, six
Sunday) and Taormina (€4.90, 1½ hours, 14 daily Monday to Saturday, eight Sunday),
while SAIS Autolinee ( 095 53 61 68; www.saistrasporti.it ; Via d'Amico 181) serves Palermo (€14.90,
2½ hours, 13 daily Monday to Saturday, nine Sunday) and Messina (€8.10, 1½ hours,
half-hourly Monday to Saturday, eight Sunday).
