delightful restaurant with outdoor seating, Metró ticks all the right boxes. The look is
simple, with bright lighting and wine bottles on the walls but the menu is altogether more
ambitious, featuring a fabulous carpaccio starter and some excellent tuna dishes - try the
tagliata
or the tuna steak with caramelised onions.
Also great are the
lasagnette con ricotta infornata e pinoli
(lasagne with baked ricotta
and pine nuts). The wine list is imaginative though heavily biased towards regional produ-
cers.

This is one of Catania's best-known and
best-loved trattorias. A homey, family-run eatery presided over by patron Nino, it does a
thriving business feeding lunching office workers and hungry theatre-goers - Teatro
Massimo Bellini is not far away. The onus is on earthy regional food, so roll up for salami
and cheese starters, pasta with seasonal veggies and juicy grilled meats/fish.
Creamy
cannoli
(pastry shells stuffed with sweet ricotta) will have you smiling as you
leave.
