Getting There & Around
BICYCLE
Hire mountain bikes from Antonio Bongiorno, one block uphill from Santa Marina's hy-
drofoil dock.
BOAT
Siremar ( www.siremar.it ) and Ustica Lines ( www.usticalines.it ) run hydrofoils to Santa Marina Salina
from Lipari (€10.10, 20 to 40 minutes, 12 to 16 daily), Vulcano (€11.90, 40 to 45 minutes,
five daily) and Milazzo (€19.05, 1½ to 1¾ hours, 12 to 16 daily). Less frequent services
connect Santa Marina with Stromboli, Panarea, Filicudi and Alicudi. Ustica Lines also of-
fers daily sailings to/from Messina (€27, 1¾ to 2¾ hours, three daily in summer, one in
winter). Many of the above services call at Rinella en route. Siremar and Ustica share a
ticket office (
090 984 30 03; Piazza Santa Marina, Santa Marina Salina) .
BUS
Citis ( 090 984 41 50; www.trasportisalina.it ) provides dependable local bus service year-round.
There are bus stops near the ports in Santa Marina and Rinella, and timetables are posted
around the island.
Buses run nine times Monday to Saturday and five times Sunday from Santa Marina to
Lingua (€1.80, five to 10 minutes) and Malfa (€1.80, 15 to 20 minutes), There are also
two direct buses daily (one on Sunday) from Santa Marina to Valdichiesa (€2.20, 25
minutes), Leni (€2.50, 30 minutes) and Rinella (€2.50, 40 minutes). Several other buses to
these latter three destinations require a change in Malfa, which adds as much as 45
minutes to the journey. From Santa Marina to Pollara (€2.20, 25 minutes to 1½ hours), a
change of buses in Malfa is always required; several buses make good connections
Monday to Saturday, but on Sunday the schedules are frustratingly out of synch.
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
Antonio Bongiorno ( 090 984 34 09; www.rentbongiorno.it ; Via Risorgimento 222, Santa Marina Salina) hires
out scooters (from €20 per day) and cars (from €50 per day).
