DIVING SPOTS AROUND LIPARI
Lipari's got some spectacular spots for divers to explore. The folks at Diving Center La Gorgonia can point you

Punta Castagna
(difficult; depth 10m to 40m) A spectacular dive with a 10m white pumice platform interrup-
ted by multicoloured channels.

Secca del Bagno
(difficult; depth 40m to 45m) A breathtaking collection of colourful walls that are swathed
with schools of technicolor fish.

Pietra Menalda
(medium; depth 18m to 40m) See the homes of octopuses, eel, groupers and other sea critters
on the southern side of the island.

Pietra del Bagno
(all levels; 20m to 40m) Circumnavigate the Bagno rock while witnessing colourful rock sur-
faces and sea life.

La Parete dei Gabbiani
(medium; 20m to 45m) A black-and-white dive: black lava rock streaked with white
pumice stone, hiding cracks that are home to lobsters.
Tours
A boat tour around Lipari is a good way of seeing the island, and the only way of getting
to some of the more inaccessible swimming spots. Lipari's high concentration of tour op-
erators also makes it a great base from which to embark on day trips to the outer Aeolian
Islands.
Numerous agencies in town offer tours. Prices vary depending on the season, but as a
rough guide allow €20 for a tour of Lipari and Vulcano, €45 to visit Filicudi and Alicudi,
€45 for a day trip to Panarea and Stromboli, or €80 for a late-afternoon trip to Stromboli
with a guided trip up the mountain at sunset and a late-night return to Lipari. Tour com-
panies generally operate from March to October.

One of Lipari's best established agencies,
well positioned on a side street between Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Garibaldi. Spe-
cialises in sunset hikes to the top of Stromboli, returning by boat to Lipari the same even-
ing. It also hires out boats and dinghies.
