Getting There & Away
AIR
Falcone-Borsellino Airport (PMO; Punta Raisi Airport; www.gesap.it ) is at Punta Raisi, 30km west of
Palermo on the A29 motorway. There are regular flights between Palermo and most main-
land Italian cities.
BOAT
From Palermo's port, just east of the corner of Via Francesco Crispi and Via Emerico
Amari, Grandi Navi Veloci ( 010 209 45 91, 091 58 74 04; www.gnv.it ; Calata Marinai d'Italia) runs ferries
to Civitavecchia (from €73), Genoa (from €90), Naples (from €44) and Tunis (from €72);
Tirrenia ( 091 976 07 73; www.tirrenia.it ; Calata Marinai d'Italia) goes to Cagliari (from €51,
Saturday only) and Naples (from €47); Grimaldi Lines ( 081 49 64 44, 091 611 36 91;
www.grimaldi-lines.com ; Via del Mare) goes to Salerno (from €65, nine to 11½ hours); and Siremar
( www.siremar.it ) goes to Ustica (€18.35, 2¼ hours).
Siremar and Ustica Lines ( 092 387 38 13; www.usticalines.it ) both operate hydrofoils year-
round to Ustica (€22.95, 1½ hours). In summertime, Ustica Lines also runs one afternoon
hydrofoil to the Aeolian Islands - with stops in Alicudi (€27, two hours), Filicudi (€32.50,
2½ hours), Rinella (€34.70, 3¼ hours), Santa Marina Salina (€38.30, 3½ hours), Lipari
(€38.70, four hours), Vulcano (€38.70, 4½ hours), Panarea (€47.40, 4¾ hours) and Strom-
boli (€54.10, 5¼ hours).
BUS
Offices for all bus companies are located within a block or two of Palermo Centrale train
station. The two main departure points are the brand-new Piazzetta Cairoli bus terminal (Piazzetta
Cairoli) , just south of the train station's eastern entrance, and the intercity bus stop on Via
Paolo Balsamo, two blocks due east of the train station. Check locally with the bus com-
pany you'll be travelling with to make certain that you'll be boarding at the appropriate
stop.
Salemi tickets are sold at Crystal Viaggi ( 091 617 54 11) in Palermo Centrale train station,
and buses leave from Piazzetta Cairoli just outside. Segesta is the agent for the Interbus
