Western Sicily
Ancient Eyries
For idyllic natural setting, few ruins can match Segesta and Selinunte; where hilltop
temples sit in splendid, moody isolation, peeking through fields of tall grass and wild-
flowers. Erice's Norman castle comes close, though, perched on a spectacular hilltop that's
been coveted by everyone from the Phoenicians to the ancient Greeks.
Fun in the Sun
Whether you're climbing San Vito's crags, hiking the Zingaro's trails, or sunbathing on an
Egadi Island beach, western Sicily offers endless supplies of outdoorsy fun.
Saracen Seasonings
North African influences have always been close at hand in western Sicily, as reflected in
the seductively spiced fish couscous that appears on every menu. Some of Sicily's finest
wines are also produced here, most notably around Marsala and Erice.
