BATHE YOURSELF IN MUD
People spend many euros on beauty treatments, but Sicilians only have to hop over to the island of Vulcano or the
beach of Eraclea Minoa to dip into a healing, beautifying and overall health-enforcing mud bath.
Vulcano's Laghetto di Fanghi ( Click here ) is a large are of gloopy sulphurous mud that has long been considered
excellent treatment for skin disorders and arthritis. Get your oldest bikini on (the smell of sulphur will never leave
the fabric, so act wisely and don't go in your new shiny swimsuit) and relax for a while - apply a mud face mask
while you're at it. Finish off with a natural Jacuzzi (hot bubbling springs in a small natural seawater pool) on the
side.
You'll see green people emerging from the western end of the beach of Eraclea Minoa, west of Agrigento. This
is because sunbathers flock to the beach's natural mud rock: they scrape the mud and spread it all over their bodies
and faces - a wonderful natural skin treatment. Let it dry on your skin and wash it off with a refreshing swim in the
sea. What could be better?
» Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro ( Click here ) - hike the coastal path between Scopello and San Vito Lo Capo
» Stromboli ( Click here ) - complete the demanding six-hour guided walk to the summit
» Valle dell'Anapo - take a gentle walk through an unspoiled valley
» Riserva Naturale Torre Salsa ( Click here ) - admire sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and coast
