Municipal Beaches
An afterthought until the 1980s, Barcelona's beaches are now one of the city's finest selling
points, luring recreationists who might otherwise have headed to the Costa del Sol or the
Caribbean. In summer, crowds pack the sands for volleyball, football and frolicking in the
waves. Chiringuitos (beachside bars) dole out snacks and cold drinks. During the week-
ends, the beach party continues long after sundown.
