Catalan-Style
Going out to eat or sipping a beer on a late summer evening at a terraza (terrace) needn't
mean leaving children with minders. Locals take their kids out all the time and don't worry
about keeping them up late.
To make the most of your visit, try to adjust your child's sleeping habits to 'Spanish
time' early on, or else you'll miss out on much of Barcelona. Also, be prepared to look for
things 'outside the box': there's the childlike creativity of Picasso and Miró (give your chil-
dren paper and crayons and take them around the museums), the Harry-Potter-meets-Tolki-
en fantasy of Park Güell and La Pedrera, and the wild costumes, human castle-building and
street food at festivals.
