BEACHES
There are 12 beaches altogether in Sitges: the main beach, flanked by the attractive seafront
Passeig Maritim , dotted with chiringuitos (beachside bars) and divided into nine sections
with different names by a series of breakwaters, as well as Sant Sebastiá, Balmins and
D'aiguadolç beaches running east of the headland that's crowded with museums and graced
by the striking Església de Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla . Though Bassa Rodona used to
be the unofficial 'gay beach', gay sunbathers are now spread out pretty evenly, while
Balmins is the sheltered bay favoured by nudists.

MUSEU CAU FERRAT
(Carrer de Fonollar) Built in the 1890s as a house-cum-studio by artist Santiago Rusiñol (a pi-
oneer of the modernism movement whose statue graces the main beach), this whitewashed
mansion is full of his own art and that of his contemporaries, including his friend Picasso,
as well as a couple of El Grecos. Under renovation at the time of writing, the museum
should have reopened by the time you read this.

» Hotel Romàntic ( 93 894 83 75; www.hotelromantic.com ; Carrer de Sant Isidre 33; s/d from €70/
100; ) These three adjoining 19th-century villas are presented in sensuous Modernista style, with a leafy dining
courtyard and friendly service, though the rooms are smallish and could do with sprucing up. Just around the corner is
its charming sister hotel, Hotel La Renaixença ( 93 894 06 43; www.hotelromantic.com ; Carrer d'Illa de
Cuba 45; s/d from €70/100) , which is actually better value.
