Tibidabo
Framing the north end of the city, the forest-covered mountain of Tibidabo, which tops
out at 512m, is the highest peak in Serra de Collserola. Aside from the superb views
from the top, the highlights of Tibidabo include an 8000-hectare park, an old-fashioned
amusement park, a telecommunications tower with viewing platform and a looming
church that's visible from many parts of the city.
Barcelonins (people of Barcelona) needing an escape from the city without heading
too far into the countryside seek out the vast Parc de Collserola ( 93 280 35 52;

Vallvidrera) in the hills. It is a great place to hike and bike and bristles with eateries and
snack bars. Pick up a map from the Centre d'Informació.
The Temple del Sagrat Cor (Church of the Sacred Heart; 93 417 56 86; Plaça de Tibidabo;
admission free, lift €2; 8am-7pm, lift 10am-7pm) , looming above the top funicular station,
was built from 1902 to 1961 in a mix of styles with some Modernista influence, and is
as visible as its Parisian namesake, Sacre Cœur.
The reason most barcelonins come up to Tibidabo is for some thrills in the amuse-
ment park, Parc d'Atraccions ( 93 211 79 42; www.tibidabo.cat ; Plaça de Tibidabo 3-4;
