In-Depth Information
La Ribera
La Ribera is a fascinating blend of history and cutting edge. It has a warren of medieval
buildings inhabited by celebrated museums, award-winning restaurants and eye-catching
boutiques. The south part of the district, known as El Born, should be your first port of call.
Here you'll find the magnificent Gothic Església de Santa Maria del Mar and the atmo-
spheric Carrer de Montcada, a street lined with Gothic and baroque mansions as well as the
city's major museums.
Passeig del Born was Barcelona's main square from the 13th to the 18th centuries and still
has an air of excitement around it - dozens of bars, cafes and some good restaurants line it,
and the streets that cross this short drag are packed with some impressive (quite high-end)
shopping. It's a popular night-time area for locals, especially in the summer when terraces
get full and bars throw open their doors.
