About 2km south of Pavones, this friendly surfer's haven is operated by the perenially
shirtless Joseph Robertston, an expat who lives to surf and paddleboard the turquoise
waves right across the road. There's a small pool, heated by the sun, and four tidy rooms
for rent. Surf and paddleboard lessons can also be arranged.

Housed on six lovely landscaped hectares, these cozy cabins are tenderly cared for by
Marshall and Angela McCarthy, who have spent years living in their adopted home of
Pavones. The common lounge offers all kinds of entertainment, including a table-tennis
table and a massive video library, but the real appeal of staying here is the warm hospital-
ity of the McCarthys.
Tiskita Jungle Lodge LODGE

Set amid extensive gardens and orchards, this lodge is arguably the most beautiful and in-
timate in all of Golfo Dulce. Accommodations are in various stunning wooden cabins ac-
cented by stone garden showers that allow you to freshen up while bird-watching. Rates
include all meals and guided walks (there's a three-night minimum). Reservations must be
made in advance.
Eating & Drinking
As many of the places to stay in Pavones come with a refrigerator and burner, it's worth
stocking up a bit at the two centrally located markets in Río Claro or the pulpería in Punta
Banco.
