In-Depth Information
It's the little things that make Coloso stand out - matching sheets, shiny hardwood floors
and coffeemakers. Bigger-picture attractions include its ideal location steps from the surf,
a cute cafe and sweet staff.
Cabinas Los Cocos CABINA
( 2776-0012; www.loscocos.com ; cabins US$79; )
Los Cocos is home to two historic cabins that used to be banana-company homes in Pal-
mar but were transported to Zancudo and completely refurbished. The other two more spa-
cious cabins are also charming, with loft sleeping areas under palm-frond roofs.
El Coquito COSTA RICAN
( 2776-0000; meals US$7-8; 7am-8pm Sun-Wed, later Thu-Sat)
Bright, cheerful and right in the middle of Zancudo's main drag, this soda is a charmer. It
offers a filling casado for US$7 of fresh fish, rice and fruit, and the licuado (smoothies)
are magically refreshing after the long, dusty ride into town. On weekends the adjoining
space transforms into a nightclub, with booming music and dancing.
Information
Zancudo consists of one dirt road, which leads from the boat dock in the north, past the
lodges that are strung along the shore, and out of town south toward Pavones. There is no
bank in town and very few places accept credit cards, so bring cash from Golfito.
Getting There & Away
BOAT
The boat dock is near the north end of the beach on the inland, estuary side. A water taxi to
Golfito (US$6, 30 minutes) departs from this dock at 7am, returning at noon, Monday
through Saturday. Inquire locally, however, as times are subject to change - though you
can always find a local boat captain willing to take you for a negotiable price.
