In-Depth Information
the strolling lovers and teenage troublemakers give the town square some charm, as does
its unexpectedly lively bar scene.
'El General' (often referred to as Pérez Zeledón, the name of the municipality) is the re-
gion's largest population center and major transportation hub. If you're traveling to the
southern Pacific beaches or Chirripó, a brief stop is inevitable. Some accommodations op-
tions just outside the town environs are worthy destinations in their own right.
And - a curious footnote - the women of San Isidro de El General are widely regarded
as Costa Rica's finest. Perhaps it's the fresh mountain air and strong coffee?
The heart of San Isidro is the network of narrow streets clustered around the Parque
Central. An uncharacteristic but nevertheless impressive neo-Gothic cathedral lords over
the eastern end.
