About 1km west of the Interamericana, this excellent budget option has painted wood
walls and colorful curtains and, importantly, electric heaters. Prices also include an early-

( 8384-4685, 2200-5465; www.valledelgeneral.com ; Interamericana Km 119; s/d incl breakfast
US$40/55; )
Aptly named, the 'View of the Valley Lookout' boasts a windowed restaurant offering
panoramic views that perfectly complement local specialties such as fried trout, and fresh-

( 8847-7207; www.bosquedeltolomuco.com ; Interamericana Km 118; d from US$65; )
Named for the sly tayra (tree otter) spotted on the grounds, this cutesy B&B is run by a
lovely, chatty Canadian couple. There are four spacious, light-filled cabins, the most

ing trails, ample opportunities to indulge in bird-watching and some magnificent views of
Los Cruces and Chirripó.
A made-to-order gourmet dinner is available with advance notice. Day hikers who want
to stretch their legs and get off the road can hike the network of trails for $2.
