In-Depth Information
his brothers - driven by drought - came south from Copey de Dota and established a farm
on the western slopes of Cerro de la Muerte.
In the early days, they planted typical subsistence crops but soon brought in dairy cattle,
stocked the streams with trout and planted orchards. Trout attracted anglers from San José,
while the fruit trees (along with the abundant wild avocado trees) attracted the quetzal.
Quetzals are spotted frequently every April and May (during breeding season) and are
fairly common throughout the rest of the year.
Activities
Sportfishing
The trout-fishing in the Río Savegre is excellent: May and June is the time for fly-fishing
and December to March for lure-fishing. A number of trout farms surround the village as
well.
