In-Depth Information
PLAYA PALO SECO
Playa Palo Seco (aka Isla Palo Seco) is a quiet, unhurried black-sand beach that's off the
beaten track, located near mangrove swamps with good opportunities for bird-watching.
A 6km dirt road connects the eastern edge of town to the beach. Another popular excur-
sion is to visit Isla Damas , which is actually the tip of a mangrove peninsula that be-
comes an island at high tide. Most people arrive here on package tours from Jacó or Que-
pos, though you can hire a boat to take you to and from the island.
It's worth making a detour to stay at Beso del Viento ( 2779-9674;
www.besodelviento.com ; r without/with air-con & incl breakfast from US$99/107; ) if
you relish privacy - this lovely French-run B&B lives up to its name ('Kiss of the Breeze'),
located in a garden setting across the road from the isolated beach. Charming wooden-
floored rooms are comfortably outfitted and decorated with an elegant eye for detail, with
tiled bathrooms and immaculate linens. Your lovely hosts serve superb French meals,
rent kayaks and bikes, and can arrange tours for guests, who must be aged 15 or older.
