CAR & TAXI
By car from Liberia, take Hwy 21 to Belén, then Hwy 155 via Huacas to Tamarindo. A
taxi costs about US$30 to or from Santa Cruz, and US$50 to or from Liberia. Alternat-
ively, consider a minibus shuttle service. Tropical Tours ( 8849-8569, 2640-1900;
www.tropicaltourshuttles.com ) offers door-to-door service to Montezuma and Mal País
(US$50 per person, five hours). Tamarindo Shuttle ( 2653-4444, 2653-2626;
www.tamarindoshuttle.com ) services the Aeropuerto Internacional Daniel Oduber Quiros in
Liberia (US$20 per person, 1½ hours), and will pick you up or drop you off at your hotel
of choice.
Getting Around
BOAT
Boats on the northern end of the beach can be hired to cross the estuary for daytime visits
to the beach at Playa Grande at the Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas De Guanacaste
Office . The ride costs US$1 per person (from about 7am to 5pm).
CAR & TAXI
There's no gas station in town, but you can buy expensive gas from drums at the hardware
store near the entrance to town. (It's cheaper to fill up in Santa Cruz or at the gas station in
Huacas.)
