Las Brisas Bar & Grill COSTA RICAN
( 2654-4047; mains US$5-12; 11am-10pm)
Just off the northwest corner of the soccer field in Potrero, this popular beachfront bar has
been a local favorite since 1950. Villagers pack the joint nightly for bocas (appetizers),
beers and brilliant sunsets. There is a weekly beach party on Wednesday nights.
La Perla AMERICAN
( 2654-4500; mains US$5-12; 4pm-late; )
You need to know La Perla, as it serves as the landmark by which all directions are given
(next to La Perla, 300m south of La Perla, etc). You might also want to know about its
highly lauded Friday night rib dinners. Live music, bar games and good-old-fashioned
comfort food keep the expat community happy.
Getting There & Away
BUS
Buses begin their route in Potrero on the southeast corner of the soccer field. Many (but
not all!) buses to Playa Flamingo continue on to Potrero.
San José (Tralapa) US$11; six hours; departs 9am and 2pm.
Santa Cruz US$2; two hours; departs 11 times per day from 5am to 10pm.
CAR
The drive from here to Playa Pan de Azúcar is one of the most scenic stretches of paved
road in all of northern Costa Rica.
Playa Flamingo
Anytime a once-pristine slice of paradise sprouts McMansions and condos and gets
stitched up with a network of roads, there is a tendency to point fingers and raise hell
about what was and what now is. And, yes, Flamingo does feel like the developers won.
